My Life as a Nomad
I am a nomad,
Some may say my life is
rather bland
I sleep in a tent made of
animal skin
My days are filled with
desert sand
We travel much, while
herding flocks,
The people we meet,
we with hospitality treat
we with hospitality treat
As custom to our culture,
I live my life without a
school,
Or friend to boast,
My sister Alma and brother
Abdul
Have, and always will be my
“BFF”
Father is wealthy, so many
slaves we have,
Flocks and herds are
plentiful,
As we travel ore abundant
land
When I marry,
Happy will I be, Father will
only choose the best,
I’ll hang my herbs and
grasses in the corner of our tent, just as Mother does,
My children won’t have many
friends other than each other
I’ll weave the cloth for the
traveling merchants to purchase,
Husband will bargain ore the
best price.
Just like Father and Mother at
night we’ll sit and survey the land.
I love my life and
wouldn’t change it if I could,
This is and always will be,
my life in desert sand
